For every single job posting a company lists, the employer can receive hundreds of applicants. Sometimes there are so many applicants, many resumes and applications are overlooked or never thoroughly reviewed at all. The best introduction to a recruiter and a great way to get your foot in the door is with effective, eye-catching cover letters. Here are tips for successful components of an effective cover letter.

There are a few rules of thumb in writing a good cover letter. The first step is to keep it to one page. Many employers don’t want to take time to read in-depth information. They want to scan quickly to see if the applicant has any unique characteristics for the position they have posted.

Start your cover letters with your contact information. If you have the name of the Hiring Manager, address it to them specifically. Be sure to include the job title and any other reference information that was included in the job posting. The second step is to tailor your cover letters to the specific position you are applying for.

Then you’ll need an introduction. This describes your interest in the position, how it fits into future goals and why you’ll be an asset to the organization. This should be a short paragraph with 2 to 3 sentences.

The tricky part is the next area. Here’s where you have to sell your credentials, taking up as little space as possible. The catch here is to key in on areas of experience and successes that you have that tie directly to the qualifications, experience and requirements listed in the job posting that you are applying for. Responsibilities and successful accomplishments will be intriguing.

The fourth step would be your closing paragraph. Here you thank them for reviewing your qualifications, you look forward to discussing your credentials further, answer any questions they may have and look forward to discussing an opportunity to work in their organization at their earliest convenience. Include the best time that you can be reached. End it with a standard business closure, best regards and your name, and that your resume is attached.

The final phase of creating effective cover letters is to read it to make sure all the details are communicated the way you meant for them to be. Catch and correct any mistakes so that you won’t deliver a letter that has mistakes as this will pretty much immediately eliminate you showing that you don’t have attention to detail and are not thorough. A good rule of thumb is not to mention pay rates expected. Have a relative review it and share their opinions.

By following steps and taking time to carefully portray yourself briefly outlining your experience as it relates to the job, you’ll successfully gain the employers attention. One thing to avoid is repeating things that are contained in the resume. The cover letters should be personalized and unique promoting elements that can’t be uncovered in the resume. If you do this, you will be successful landing a job.

I like to look at medical transcription as a career where there are no limits. Currently, you may not be making the medical transcriptionist salary that is ideal. Well, I am here to let you know that no matter how much or how little you are making right now, there is always room for improvement.

Below you will see five easy ways that anyone can raise their medical transcriptionist salary in a short period of time:

1. Have you ever tried typing with no help at all? This is usually the case for a lot of beginners. To speed up your production, (and salary of course), you must getd a word expander program. If you are not sure what a word expander program is, then I will be the first to tell you that it is affordable software that allows you to type in the whole word, and then lets you to expand it when you type in the partial word. For example, if you want to type in the word, “transcription”, all you have to do is type something like “trans” and the word expander will then type out the whole word for you. You wouldn’t believe how much time can be saved, and how much extra money can be made.

2. Something else I like to recommend to people who are looking to increase their pay is to purchase a comfortable desk and chair. When you think about the fact that you will be sitting for almost half the day, it would be very profitable to make sure that you can move with ease. Make sure that your computer is not up to high and that your keyboard isn’t down too low and vice versa. Desk discomfort can hinder production a lot more than you think.

3. A different way to increase your medical transcriptionist salary is to look for higher-paying medical transcriptionist jobs. The normal starting salary is about .6 to .8 cents per line. That doesn’t sound like very much, but if you type quickly, you can make more than the average transcriptionist. Be sure that the company you apply with also includes spaces. If they don’t include spaces, then you are going to end up typing twice as much just to get by.

4. Something that you should definitely own is a foot pedal, or at least learn all of the shortcuts, such as hot keys. You see, when you are transcribing a report, you will constantly have to start, stop, rewind, and fast forward the dictation. Instead of having to take your hands off the keyboard and using your mouse, you can use your foot pedal or hot keys. With medical transcription, every second counts.

5. And finally, I like to suggest that people work on the quality of their reports. The reason why is because if you can type a good report with little to no errors, then the company you work for will value you much more as a worker, and will be much more likely to increase your pay. You will also have a better chance of snagging those higher-paying positions that start off around .12 to .14 cents per line instead of .6 to .8 cents per line.It is so simple to increase your medical transcriptionist pay. All it takes is a little bit of knowledge on your part. A word expander and a comfortable chair and desk can mean the difference between an extra 100 to 300 lines per hour. Owning a foot pedal can help you tack on an extra 50 to 100 or more. Over the period of a couple of hours, you can make up to five times as much as you would without any help, which is really an entire paycheck!

How much social media or networking helping organizations to hire talented people? We find many recruiters nowadays effectively using social networking for hiring the best people for an organization. Now the question which needs to be answered is on whether this social networking can replace other recruiting tools.

One of the best and better ways to find and recruit talent for an organization is via the social media route. However, many people and recruiters still believe the fact that its worth is still not explored to a larger extent.

Only very few recruiters have been successful using social media to hire the best talent for an organization. Hence its overall benefits and success rate needs to be judged and figured out by the organizations and recruiters as well. I have seen many recruiters praising the method of social networking as one of the most remarkable solutions in comparison to the older conventional tools available in the industry today.

There are various thoughts and feelings which sets the mood and platform for people to interact online. Let us see how does it affects the online networking circuit.

What does the recruiter or hiring person thinks:

The hiring consultant is confident that as soon as he joins any social media site he is definitely going to get an access to an immense pool of talented professionals. On the various communities or specific networking groups he is confident to find people related to his industry or market. To check whether this statement is true we have to analyze what people want or think when they interact with one another on the social arena.

Psychology of the People joining Social Media sites:

People look forward to stay in touch and connect with their friends. Most of the people interact through various social mediums to build strong and long term connections with their offline friends. They also look forward in gaining value by sharing information and their networks with others. Most of the individuals talk about their personal lives and very few indulge in career related activities or sharing their future aspirations with others. There are various dedicated sites on developing great career prospects however for our current discussion, I would like to keep them out of it.

What can be figured out from this kind of behaviour of usage is:

The connection strength is quite huge in comparison to an individual’s network.

Men responses are less if we compare it to any women. Six or more will be an average number of people with whom a female will be interacting while a man would manage to handle four at any point in time. The mixing of people with common background or profession is seen less as major talk revolves around sharing personal details and achievements. You are also not able to judge where that individual is working or what are his qualifications as people tend to avoid mentioning such details on their social networking profile. You are also not sure whether he has been successful in his profession or what his current employment status is till date.

The study above influences our decision and challenges us to revisit and analyze whether it is beneficial to judge people on the various so called social networking sites. Much deeper study is required before declaring this tool to be complete in all aspects.

How much successful is Social Media?

Discussions around career development or honing one’s skills are seldom found in the various chatrooms or scraps. As a recruiter one would be able to extract very limited information on an individual’s candidature which most of the times leads to incorrect decision making. The profile of many individuals seems to hide the useful information and often carries plane garbage. This leads to a lot of confusions and many times resulting in delays and unjustifiable decisions.

How Do You Verify Online Details Of Candidates?

Assuming that a recruiter has finally shortlisted few candidates based on his assumptions and information provided on a networking site. The challenge lies here is on the verification of information collected to assess an individual’s background. There are very few resources like LinkedIn to rely upon to confirm the details shared by an individual in his profile. It is advisable to be more cautious on relying on social media at this point.

Recruiters need to really work hard on totally relying on social media to be the best solution for sourcing and recruitment for organizations. There has to be a certain change in the information shared at these sites which can be utilized by potential organizations or recruters for their benefit.

Most individuals begin working for the first time, with part time jobs. Part-time jobs are an excellent way for a high school student to earn some extra money, as well as learn responsibility. They are also a perfect opportunity for a previously employed individual to earn extra money.

Most college students rely upon part-time jobs to make ends meet. Many are paying their own way through college, and need this money to pay their bills. Others may have their college tuition already paid for, but work part time jobs, in order to have spending money.

One drawback to having a part-time job, is that more often than not, these positions do not include healthcare benefits. For some individuals who are working several part-time jobs, while seeking full-time employment, this can certainly present an issue. For students, the retired, and parents who are subsidizing an existing income, this is less of an issue. Usually, these individuals already have healthcare benefits.

Part-time jobs offer the opportunity to learn certain skills that you may not possess. This certainly presents the chance for individuals to become more employable in the future. Many people have gone on to form careers, and even open their own business, based on the skills they have a quiet to a part-time job.

A part-time job should not be considered trivial. This is not the time to socialize, and goof off. Is important to remember that having you in the workplace, is costing your employer money. Before accepting any job, including a part-time job, it is important to know what you will be paid. Once you have agreed upon this wage, you have also agreed to do the work properly. A person who does the job well, makes money for their employer. This will certainly not go unnoticed. This is an employee who, has developed a reputation, as one who can be counted on. Most employers will appreciate this, and reward it.

Again, do not go off, just because this is a part-time job. This is a quick way to find yourself unemployed. Be sure to clean up your own messes, and keep things as tidy as possible. You should also know where all necessary supplies are kept, and keep them well stocked.

Remind yourself, that you have been employed for a reason. No matter how menial a job may seem, it is apparently integral to the business, otherwise the position would not have been available. The important thing, is to do the best job that you are able to do. Think about it, if you are willing to work hard, and do an excellent job at something which seem small and insignificant, how much more willing will it seem that you are, to do an excellent job at something which is clearly important.

Pay attention! Search out the most successful people at your workplace. Find out what they do, how they do it, and why. This will give you all that you need in order to achieve success. These are the answers to what you should do, how you should do it, and why. Make a practice of copying the success of these individuals, and you will soon find yourself at the top with them.

Part-time jobs are much more important than many people realize. This could be your key to a successful future.

Career articles in print and online and career coaches tell you that in order to do well in an interview - and to ultimately get the job offer - you must "Be Prepared."

by Carole Martin, The Interview Coach

Career articles in print and online and career coaches tell you that in order to do well in an interview – and to ultimately get the job offer – you must “Be Prepared.”

Do you know how to prepare for your interview?

“What does prepared for an interview look like?”

“What if I’m not REALLY qualified or able to do this job?” “How do I know what they are going to ask?” “How can I make them I hire me?”

Where do you find the answers to these common concerns and questions?

It IS a Tough Job Market

You realize that you are competing against the odds. You are more than aware that you are in a tough job market and that you will have to do something to make yourself stand out from the rest of the crowd.

The question is, “How can you make yourself stand out when there are so many other candidates looking at the same job?”

The answer is: “Personal Interview branding”

What exactly is Branding Yourself?

This is what companies do when they want to sell something – they use whatever methods necessary to tell the customers who they are, what they do and how they do it – they “brand” the product.

How do I brand myself? I’m not a product?

This is one of the main secrets of successful interview preparation. Begin to think of yourself as a product. What this means is you have to discover What Makes You Unique – and to begin thinking of yourself like a product.

Effective branding used in the interview is the same as in business. It is telling the customer (in this case the interviewer) who you are; what you can do and have done in the past (your unique qualities); and why they should buy (hire you).

Call For An Interview

Let’s assume that your outstanding resume makes it to the top of the stack of resumes of people to be called for an interview.

First of all -Congratulations on getting this far.

The problem is that You – and maybe nine or ten other equally qualified people for the position will receive that same call.

Companies have so many candidates to choose from, they are interviewing more people so that they can select the “best.” Are you the best? You had better be prepared to prove that you are the best by letting the interviewer know what makes you unique and what you can do for them – you you will bring to the position.

It is essential that you be ready to sell yourself when you are lucky enough to be invited to an interview. You need to let the interviewer know what makes you unique, what makes you a “remember-able” person? What added value you can bring to the position?

In other words, why YOU are the best person for the job?

You need to leave behind an impression of you and your “brand.”

Preparation

By doing some basic preparation, you can determine your uniqueness and where you should focus your attention. You can discover your personal interview “brand.”

This process is to identify the points you have to offer – the combination that makes you Unique.

This should be a combination of your education, experience and any special training or certifications you may have, as well as your area of expertise, your strengths, and your personal traits.

You can put your statement together by listing all these qualities and then making them into a concise statement to present to the employer when any of the standard questions come up.

“What makes you unique?” “Tell me about yourself.” “What can you bring to this position that the other candidates can or can’t?” “What are you strengths?” “Tell me something about you that will make me remember you after you leave the interview.”

You can develop the answers to these questions by using “5 points” to use during the interview. If you use your five fingers to keep focused you can jog your memory if you forget what you were going to say due to being nervous.

Point #1

Your education and years of experience. (More experienced persons will talk mainly about experience and not education.

Point #2

Your area of expertise – or what you know a lot about. (For less experienced people you will have to rely on classes or courses you’ve taken).

Point #3

Your strength – this is usually a trait that you can use in any job. In other words, a general trait. (Communication, Relating to Others, Analytical Problem Solving, Determination, Adaptability).

Point #4

Your work ethic or work style (This is what coworkers would say to describe you).

Point #5

Something interesting about you (A hobby, somewhere that you volunteer to do, a sport or arts interest. If you can think of something that relates to the job you are applying for that would be a plus).

By summarizing what you have to offer in a methodical way you will be less apt to wander or forget what you intended to say.

You can write out your job winning brand or you can search for online tools to help you create your personal interview brand.

Regardless of the method you use – you should be prepared. It will make a difference in the way that you present yourself and in your being able to talk openly – without being modest about what you have to offer. You will be able to tell the interviewer why they should hire YOU – and what makes you unique.

As a matter of fact, this exercise of creating your unique brand will help you in ALL your interactions – social, business, and your day-to-day life. The more you know yourself and are will to talk openly about yourself the more comfortable you will be in talking about yourself – to anybody.

If you are one of several victorious individuals who has obtained an interview appointment for the job you have been diligently hunting, to begin with congrats. Now it is time to commence getting ready for the culminating stage towards efficiently obtaining a position wherever you may reside across the world. So how do you groom yourself for this decisive moment in your work life?

Meticulously examine your resume and catch any deviations that the prospective appraiser may ask you about. Meditate on further achievements to confirm your abilities and your capacity for this vacancy. Ascertain how you can use your abilities and accomplishments to better your new job to help the organization.

You have already investigated the job needs and the organization and business for your CV and cover letter. It is crucial to know the important details of the organization and industry in fair detail and to carry on a dialogue concerning your ideas and how things can be refined. Meditate on questions correlated to your line of work that you can ask the appraiser to illustrate your curiosity and eagerness to learn.

A section of your meeting will be general talk and the majority of it specifically targeted towards your CV, post, firm and industry. It is wise to remain abreast recent events in politics, sports, entertainment and even business practices. Read headlines and glance over recent events. This will enable you to make small talk on almost every subject matter and present you as a individual who stays in touch with current events and has a common interest in what is going on throughout the world. This methodology will also furnish you additional information interrelated to your line of work.

Regular questions to ask the employer can be pertaining additional job responsibilities, what will your particular role be and the kind of work you will carry out on a day-by-day basis, progress path and training frequency. You may need to steer clear of subject matters associated to wage and benefits through your opening interview.

Figure out a series of questions you expect to be asked by the appraiser. These must incorporate questions on the industry, position, your individual short, medium and long term objectives, strategy and work related experiences, your talent to succeed in a group or as a group leader, your plus points and failings and ideas and creativity. The appraiser may ask questions interrelated with a couple of these issues in a more indirect manner. It is your mission to know what exactly he means and answer accurately.

Unless otherwise acknowledged, dress professionally in general business clothing and pick your colors sensibly. For less conservative industries a noticeable accessory may help build an impression of enthusiasm and energy but nonetheless be sensible in how you dress. Physical appearances do count.

Keep practicing your interview again and again in your head or with a associate. Try to cover all workable scenarios. If your interview needs you to solve industry particular cases, as is usual in consulting positions, try and find sample questions from the firm’s site or a job related website in advance. Anticipate and be ready for the unexpected.

To be in control and aware all through the interview you have to relax the night before. Try and receive about nine hours of sleep the day before your interview to wake up fresh and arrive on time at the interview. Make a concerted effort to be there twenty to twenty-five minutes sooner than the interview commences.

Do not be worried and start perspiring. If you have completed your investigation suitably, practiced extensively and rested, you will walk in sure and win the employer over with your prompt replies and applicable skill. Here’s to your career.

You will find many thousands of job listings online. Make sure, when you begin your search for a new job, that you know what you are looking for. Sifting through every available job could literally take years, without ever finding what you need.

It is important to have your resume prepared and available, before starting your job search. Available jobs sometimes go very quickly. The person who is most prepared definitely has the advantage. The level of organization that you show with an application or interview, will be an indication to a potential employer of how you will perform on the job.

Your search should begin with a broad theme, and gradually narrow to your specific job of choice. For example, if you have worked as an office manager, you may want to start with a search of secretarial positions, or business management positions. Then you may narrow it down to what you are searching for.

When applying for a job that you have found in the job listings, you should only apply for the ones that you actually qualify for. This may seem obvious, but you would be surprised by how many people apply for jobs that they can not perform. This wastes everyone’s time. All that you will accomplish is to irritate people, and make a bad reputation for yourself.

Check the job listings on a daily basis. Always look at the new job postings, but do not waste time going over the ones that you have already rejected. Look up similar jobs to the ones that you are applying, in order to be prepared for any questions that you may be asked. If your search is online, you should spend about one to two hours a day on this.

Definitely utilize the resources that are available with online job listings. This will give you a great deal of information about how to write a resume, how to make your job application stand out, and how to get hired. You will also usually find a place where you may list you resume. This is a great opportunity to have potential employers contact you.

Put your best foot forward. Always be ready to start a new job. Do not apply for a job that you can nor start for six months, unless they specifically list that, that is when you will be needed. Be enthusiastic, but not overly eager. And so the questions that you are asked without elaborating, unless you are asked for more information. Many people have talked themselves right out of a job, by not knowing when to stop.

Once you have accepted a position that you have found through a job listing, you should thank the job listing service for their part in helping you to find a job. By all means, present a commentary to the website, which indicates your positive experience. This will show other job seekers that they have found a reputable job listing through this provider. It will also create a positive relationship between you and the job listing agency. This will definitely be useful, if you should find yourself seeking employment in the future.

Travel nurses are nurses who travel to a variety of geographic locations for short term nursing assignments in a medical facility. These nurses will fill in for full time nurses on leave or during peak work times in such places as a hospital, doctors office, or other medical facility. The salary is quite high with assignments usually lasting about 13 weeks.

The job interview for a travel nurse is a bit different than when interviewing for a traditional nursing position. Interviews are done over the phone instead of in person. Normally a human resources manager will review your resume and decide if you will make a good temporary addition to the medical team. If the manager wants to interview you, he or she will contact the travel nursing company where you are a member. Once an interview has been arranged, you will be contacted about the time that you will receive the interview phone call. It is important to adequately prepare for the phone job interview.

The following are a number of tips to help a travel nurse have a successful job interview:

1. Because of high competition, make sure you have your interview as soon as possible so you can gain a competitive edge over other candidates interviewing for the position.

2. Before the job interview, research the medical facility. You can do this by going online and checking out the companys website. Make any notes about key features of the facility. Prepare any questions you might have about the company.

3. Prepare for questions that the interviewer may ask. You can practice with a fellow travel nurse or with a friend. Travel nurses are in high demand so make sure you are professional when you speak. Make sure you can speak clearly and without being distracted. Although you will be on the phone, smile as that will affect the tone of your vice. Make sure you dont have any uncomfortable pauses and dont use phrases such as umm. You should speak smoothly with a relaxed tone.

4. Make sure you ask relevant questions about the job and facility. Keep pertinent materials about the facility beside you for reference.

5. During the interview, highlight that you are a team player, can adapt to a new environment, can handle stress, and are flexible. These are qualifications that employers are looking for in a travel nurse. Keep a bottle of water with you in case of a dry or scratchy throat.

6. Follow up with the travel nursing agency to let them know how the interview went. As well, make sure you know what the next step is in the travel nurse job process.

When preparing for a travel nurse job interview, you need to be self-confident and aware of all of your essential skills and education that shows that you will make a valuable temporary employee. Taking the time to adequately prepare for the interview will significantly increase the chances of securing the travel nurse job.

by Mika Shantor

Learning how to become independent is important for all teenagers. Getting and keeping that first job is part of the learning process that every teen has to go through sooner or later. Whether they may be earning money for childish gadgets or for their future life, it doesnt matter. Letting them experience work makes them independent and responsible adults in the future.

When you get a job, it requires you to learn certain tasks and become good at them. This will also give a teenager a sense of accomplishment along with the reward of getting paid to do it. Learning how to earn money is important in any young persons life because up to then, all they have done is spend. Everyone must be taught the value of money and getting a job is one of the first steps.

There are many jobs available for teenagers in the city, and one simply has to look closely. Job postings for teenagers can often be found in newspapers, bulletin boards, and other such places. However, competition is tough in this kind of job hunting, so it would give your teenager an edge s/he comes prepared.

One way of preparing is by create a resume. A resume is a document used by professionals to assess the credentials of an applicant. It should consist of the applicants name, address, grade level, skills, achievements, and contact details. It should also contain the type of job an applicant would want to have, and the reason why they desire the job. Limit resume to a single page because most employers would just glance at a document for ten seconds, and nothing more, they could already know whether an applicant is qualified for the position or not during these ten seconds.

After having decided what type of job to try to get, the next step is to figure out where to go to get those types of jobs. Teens should now include the Internet in their job search as many employers spend more time online recruiting than they do offline. Teens should also recognize that they are probably only qualified for manual labor jobs and they should not apply for ones they have no chance of getting.

Teen jobs are traditionally in retail, restaurants, maintenance, as well as camp counselor and yard work jobs. In those industries they can be store clerks, busboys, cashiers, attendants, and dishwashers. Teens can also do a lot of jobs around the neighborhood such as walking pets, lawn mowing, weeding, and washing cars. These opportunities could harness your childs skills and boost their self-esteem, further aiding them for the future.
